Abstract
:
The purpose of this study was to determine the reality of voluntary work and prerquisites for its advancement, and what is its role and contribution to achieving community development, as well as the most significant obstacles preventing its activation in the community and the most significant areas of its practice from the perspective of male and female volunteers in charitable association in the city of Abha, With a proposal to activate it. This study was a descriptive and analytical study based on the comprehensive social survey approach, where it was implemented in the city of Abha and applied to all male and female volunteers in charitable association. The size of the study population was (361) male and female volunteers, and (20) community leaders in Abha city. The questionnaire and interview tools were used for data collection. And the data was analyzed using the Statistical Packages for the social sciences (SPSS). The most important conclusion showed that voluntary work in the community is practiced at a (high) degree. The results also showed that the material - human - organizational obstacles encountering voluntary work and limiting its role in the development of the community are with a (high) degree of disability, where It became evident that the most significant human obstacles are reflected in ( poor volunteers training and rehabilitation) and the most significant material obstacles are compiled in ( weak media marketing for the achievements of voluntary institutions, which constitutes an obstacle to their obtaining funding) and was found the organizational obstacles had the highest arithmetic mean when compared to the other of the barriers . In additions, Its concluded that the most important requirements for promoting and expanding voluntary work were (the importance of honoring volunteers and motivating them to be urged to give more contribute to the development of their community, as well as the very great need for clarity of legislation and regulations for voluntary work). The results also showed that the most prominent areas of voluntary work contribute to the development of the community in the city of Abha (care for orphans and widows). Moreover, its concluded that the most social contributions provided by voluntary work to the development of the community from the point of view of the study community members was its contribution to increasing the cohesion of the community and the interdependence of its members. and most cultural contributions are the deepening of belonging and responsible citizenship among members of society, and the most economic contributions provided by voluntary work was its contribution to transforming individuals in the community from pastoralists to self-reliant developmentalists. Eventually, the study included a proposal developed to activate voluntary work in the community in the light of the results of this study and to benefit from the scientific literature related to voluntary work and also benefiting from the theoretical framework.
