Abstract
:
Large cell calcifying Sertoli cell tumor of the testis (LCCSCT) is a rare sex cord-stromal tumor that is usually benign. We report on two cases of LCCSCT of the testis and review the current literature of this recently described rare subtype of Sertoli cell tumor. A case of 26-years old Saudi adult presented with painless left testicular mass and a four and a half year-old Saudi boy presented with left testicular swelling and precocious puberty. Microscopic examination of both tumors revealed similar features and shows clusters or cords of large, non-mitotic, sertoli cells with abundant eosinophilic cytoplasm and extensive foci of calcification tumor cells. Both tumors expressed cytokeratin and vimentin and weak expression for inhibin. Ki-67 and p53 protein are negative. Ultrastructural examination indicated features common to steroid-producing cells. The first patient treated by tumorectomy and the second by transinguinal radical orchidectomy. Both patients are in a good health after a follow-up period of 3 and 1 year respectively with no evidence of recurrence or metastasis. These reports appear to be the first Saudi cases of LCCSCT.
